London Baby!

Honeymoon Day 1: London

We made it!!

It was a long flight and not very productive sleep wise, but we made it to London earlier than our scheduled arrival (per Trent, that was the only good thing about the flight <-- he's a little jet lagged).  We made it through immigration at an all time record and breezed through customs without a glance from anyone.  We met up with our almost silent ride to the hotel, and marveled at the drivers in this country.  Neither of us would like to drive on these streets anytime in the near future.  They are only wide enough for one car, but often have a double decker bus and several cars passing through at the same time.  Oh and the whole driving on the wrong side of the street is just bizarre.  It's a good thing, "look left" and "look right" are painted on all of the streets, or I'm positive we would have been run over already.

Our hotel is amazing.  It's a beautiful old building with crazy narrow hallways and the smallest "lifts" (elevators) we have ever seen.  It barely fit Trent, me and our two suitcases and we laughed when the sign said it held a max of 4 people.  We did get an upgrade to our room though (yay!) and can open one of the extremely large windows and walk out onto a terrace that overlooks the street.  Oh and to get to our room you go down a crazy narrow hallway, up two flights of stairs and down a 1/3 flight of stairs.  It's a biz bizarre but we're off the hallway, so it's nice and quiet.  The room is average size, but it's two stories tall and has a massive crystal chandelier hanging in the middle of it.  After taking a good 5 minutes to find the switch that turns on all of the lights switches in the room, we settled in pretty easily.

Once we got checked in, we headed out for some fresh air and sunlight as Trent was fading very quickly.  Hyde Park is just across the street from our hotel, so we thought that was a good place to start.  The park is massive and is mostly just grassy areas with lots of trees.  As we continued to wander to through the park, we came upon Kensington Palace and its gardens.  We decided not to tour the palace, but of course we wandered through the gardens several times.  I can honestly say I've never been someplace with Trent where he didn't know what most of the plants were.  But we have lots of pictures so he can look them up when we home.  After the park, we wandered around a bit and found a pub and enjoyed our first real fish and chips.  We learned that salt is not used at all here, but with a little bit of that, it was pretty good.  After all that walking and food, we grabbed a couple cups of coffee, but those didn't do much good and we headed back to the hotel for a nap.

After a nice hour nap, we freshened up and headed back out.  After studying our maps, we figured out that we had been right on the edge of Notting Hill, so we headed back that way to explore.  The neighborhoods were beautiful and we stopped in a few shops along the way.  We ended up at another pub for dinner and oddly enough Trent had Indian food and I had greek food.  Turns out there is just about any kind of cuisine you can imagine around here.  We somehow managed to pick one of the few pubs around that was showing the 'football' game, so it got crazy busy and we got out of there as quickly as possible.

The temps dropped pretty quickly once the sun went down, and as our few hours of sleep on the plane and the 1 hour nap were wearing off, we decided to call it a night a little early (it's 9:45pm here now).

The plans for tomorrow are to get on one of the big double decker buses and see the city and then it's off for high tea at Brown's Hotel.  Day 1 was pretty great and we still can't believe we're here, but I'm sure it will sink it more tomorrow.

Love you all!!

P.S. I'm too tired to figure out how to get pictures onto the iPad tonight from our memory card, but I promise to upload a few tomorrow morning.

Welcome to our Blog!

Welcome to our blog!

Trent and I are so excited to be getting married and just as excited to be going to Europe on our Honeymoon!  This will be a first for both of us to travel "across the pond" and a first for Trent to leave the country.

Our plan will be to post daily what we have been up to, but it's likely that it will only happen every other day.  We will try our best though!

See you all again in just 6 short days!

Love,
T&K
